SHEIKH KHANI ZAMAN ACCORDED EMOTIONAL FAREWELL BY FAMILY MEMBERS

Jammu, August 02 :Two days after family members of Sheikh Khani Zaman, resident of Muzaffarabad in POK, celebrated marriage ceremony of his sisters son, he was accorded warm farewell by his relatives and several others with sobbing eyes and endless hugs. The send off ceremony brought tears in the eyes of all those present on the occasion as large number of friends and relatives had turned up to say goodbye to their loved one separated sixty years ago during partition with the rest of the family members.
The family members gathered on the occasion also appealed to both the countries to reduce procedural formalities to facilitate easy travel across line of control. The farewell ceremony later turned out to a grim affair as Mohd Shaquat, son of Sheikh Khani Zaman fainted and was immediately rushed to the nearest clinic.
Before his departure, Sheikh Khani Zaman was showered with flower petals and was escorted to his vehicle by his brothers and sisters holding each others hands.
Before saying final goodbye Sheikh expressed his gratitude thanking everyone present there for their love and sweet gestures during his 45 day long stay in Jammu and also thanked both Manmohan Singh and General Pervez Musharraf for starting bus service and allowing members of the separated families to meet each other.
Sheikh Khani Zaman,alias Sujan Singh was reunited with his family members after a gap of almost sixty years. He travelled from Muzaffarabad via Uri along with his son Shoukat Zaman and his grand daughter to reach Jammu on June 22.He is expected to board Uri-Muzaffarabad bsu servie from Srinaagr on Thursday to return home.
He was separated from his family members during partition and later converted to Islam.
During his 45 day long stay in Jammu he along with his son Mohd Shauqat and granddaughter participated in several familiy get togethers and exchanged greetings with each other.
Talking to Kashmir Independent Press he shared memories of his stay with his family and invited his family living in Jammu to visit him in Muzaffarbad during the marriage ceremony of his son Shauqat.He also expressed hope that both the governments would facilitate easy travel for the convenience of the members of the divided families.
Brother of Sheikh Khani Zaman Jai Singh, Charan Singh and his wife Shabir Kaur said that only separated families can describe the excitement of meeting someone separated for sixty long years and then getting reunited for some days to separate once again.He said I appeal to both India and Pakistan to carry forward the peace process allowing members of the divided families to see each other.
