| World Water Day celebrated in Jammu | | | ET Plus Report
Jammu, Mar 22: As part of celebrations of world water day, the theme of which has been selected as, "World Cooperation" Communication and Capacity Development Unit (CCDU) in association with WEMTEP and various agencies organized an awareness programme for people of Jammu city about the importance of safe drinking water and total sanitation. The CCD, J&K unit has chalked out a-day long mobilization/free water testing camps under the flagship programme NRDWP (National Rural Drinking Water programme) in nine identified localities of Jammu city namely in Narwhal Bahu Road Railway Bridge, Joggi Gate Park-Exhibition road, Bus Stand Park-MLA hostel Side, Rani Park- Parade ground, Green Belt Park-Gandhi Nagar, Bagwati Nagar Park- canal Road, Bahu Plaza, Roop Nagar and Satwari Chowk. The total ten teams drawn from experts of water testing, monitoring and surveillance comprising of over 50 energetic officials have conducted on the spot 500 free water testing samples and acquainted consumers the different parameters of water so that they could get rid off the menace of contaminated water. To aware people on the subject the various components of IEC activities such as Folk, Electronic and Print Media were placed to bring home the message of the day among the masses. The theme of world water day 2013 has been chosen as 'World Cooperation" to focus the attention of importance of fresh sustainable management of fresh water resources. Water cooperation is a foundation for peace and sustainable development. Water cooperation contributes to poverty reduction and equity, creates economic benefits, health preservation of water resources and environment the day is held every year on 22 March to highlight specific aspects of fresh water. The international day to celebrate fresh water was recommended at the 1992 United Nation Conference on Environment in Rio de Janerio. |
