| Security posts may be re-established in Srinagar | | | ET Plus Report
Jammu, Mar 22: Following recent militant attacks on security forces in Srinagar Government may explore the need to re-establish security posts in Srinagar and on the Srinagar-Baramulla road. Since the two attacks took place on the outskirts of the city of Srinagar militants seem to have dropped a definite hint about their success in having carved out new hideouts in the city and its immediate surroundings. Intelligence agencies are said to have conveyed to the security agencies especially the police and the CRPF, the need for setting up mobile camps and patrol parties for keeping militants and their hideouts under surveillance. In addition to this the security agencies, including the Army have been advised to carry out Road Opening programmes right in the morning whenever convoys had to move from one place to the other. These two developments have been the reason for the police chief Ashok Prasad to review at a high-level meeting, the law and order and security situation in the Valley. Sources said the prevailing law and order situation in the Valley was discussed in detail during the meeting. The Director General of Police was given a detailed briefing on the issue. Meanwhile, Prasad has claimed there was no security lapse in the recent militant attacks in Srinagar. "The police have over a period of time been pre-occupied with other things. That can be counted as a reason but there was no security lapse," said the DGP. He said while the graph of militancy had gone down considerably over the years, the situation could not be called incident-free yet. "Yes, we have to be extra cautious.
