| Two Let militants eliminated in Handwara, no collateral damage | | BSNL Sim card recovered from encounter side | |
Srinagar | Feb 26 Two militants believed to be of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) outfit were eliminated after a brief encounter with the joint operation party of Police and 33 RR Army at Khansodan Magam, Handwara. Huge amount of arms and ammunition coupled with a BSNL Sim was recovered from the site of encounter. Meanwhile, no collateral damage was reported in the encounter. According to reports, Handwara Police received specific information regarding the presence of some militants in the village of Khansodan falling under Police post Magam. On the receipt of information, Police Handwara and personnel of 33 RR laid a cordon around the village where militants were hiding in the house of Ghulam Nabi Khan, son of Mohd Maqbool. In the first and foremost action by the police the civilians of the village were evacuated. After this a close cordon was laid. When the inner cordon was being laid, the militants started firing on the security forces and police. In the ensuing gunbattle, the militant were killed. Meanwhile, two AK rifles, one Under Barrel Grenade Launcher, four Under Barrel Grenades, six grenades, one Kenwood wireless set and one mobile set Nokia with the number 9419954173 were recovered from the encounter side. In the personal search of the militants some matrix two Election Commission Cards were recovered. The documents and the locals stated that the militants were apparently from Lashkar-e- Toiba. The documents found on the spot revealed the codes of the slain militants as G 7 and G 8.
