| BETWEEN THE DEVIL AND DEEP SEA: APHC WANTS DELHI TO RESUME THE TALKS | | | Srinagar, August 02: The All party Hurriyat Conference (APHC) leadership feels itself placed between the devil and the deep sea.On one hand it has earned the displeasure of hardliners and militants for having opened the dialogue channel with the government of India, on the other hand it stands ignored by the centre even after having had four rounds of talks with Delhi during the last three months. According to a senior APHC leaderMolvi Abbas Ansari,”we are in a deep fix.On one side the government of India has suspended the process of dialogue with Pakistan and on the other hand the dialogue channel with us has been choked by Delhi for no fault of ours.” Molvi Ansari told Kashmir Independent Press on Wednesday,” right from the day we accepted the offer for talks from the then NDA government we displayed a great fund of sincerity in resolving the vexed Kashmir issue.” He stated that” the spirit of sincerity and flexibility was demonstrated by the APHC leaders during two rounds of talks they had with Dr Manmohan Singh” The APHC leader lamented that Delhi “ has not reciprocated our sincerity and flexibility and its dilly dallying tactics had cast a shadow on the Hurriyat- centre talks”. The Molvi said that “ we have been in favour of sustained and meaningful dialogue between Delhi and Islamabad. At the same time we want representatives o people of Kashmir to be involved in the talks because mere bilateral parleys may not facilitate settlement of the Kashmir issue.” He claimed that whenever there was a big gap in the Hurriyat-centre talks and in Delhi-Islamabad dialogue the security scenario in Jammu and Kashmir” registers alarming dimensions”. Molvi Ansari said that by accepting to hold talks with the centre” leaders of the Hurriyat conference have been put to big inconvenience” adding that “ we risked our lives to see the Kashmir issue resolved”. However, Delhi was misguided not only by senior bureaucrats but by those vested interests which donot want peace and political stability to return to Kashmir”, he added. The Hurriyat Conference leader said,” if Delhi wanted to ensure peace in Kashmir it should resume talks with us and keep the dialogue channel with Islamabad running.” He hastened to add that “ without the involvement of peoples representatives durable settlement of the Kashmir issue was not possible”. |
