13 army jawans among 17 killed, 6 injured critically

At least seventeen persons including thirteen Army jawans of 10 Rashtriya Rifles were killed and six others injured, two of them critically, when a bus they were traveling in skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge near Gangote Morh today about three kilometers from here . Four civilians were also killed in the accident.
Informed sources told News Agency of Kashmir that a civil Bus carrying army jawans was on its from Jammu to Mahore met with a tragic accident at Gangote Morh when the driver failed to negotiate a slippery blind curve.
Sources said that the bus bearing Registration number JK02C- 7233 on reaching Gangote Morh skidded off the road and rolled down into about 200 feet deep gorge. Seventeen persons including thirteen jawans died in the mishap while six persons were injured, two of them critically.
The Jawans killed in the accident were returning from leave, sources added.
Giving details one eyewitness told that the Bus which was part of an army convoy fell into the gorge with a big bang resulting in the death of 15 people on the spot which include eleven Army personnel and four civilians. Two Jawans died on way to the hospital, while six injured were shifted to Army Hospital Mahore where two of them are battling with life.
Eyewitnesses said that that on hearing the bang and cries of the victims, people gathered at a near by Ziarat ran towards the accident site and start rescue operation. Later they were joined by the police and Army troops.
Eight deceased Army personnel and 2 Civilians have been so for identified which include, Sepoies Surinder Rajan, M Karachi, Surinder Kumar, Parmod Singh, Subhash Chander, V K Raju, Yudishter Singh and Bachiter Singh. Three civilians killed in the accident are Ali Mohammad son of Ahad Bali of Lar Gool Gulab Garh, Hamida Begum his wife and their minor daughter.
The identification of five Army Jawans and a civilian believed to be conductor of the Bus is yet to be ascertained. The Driver of the Vehicle was among the injured. Other five injured are also Army personnel.
