| Parmanand deprecates government’s attitude towards Dalits | | | JAMMU | FEB 26 THE State Bhartiya Dalit Sahitya Akademy organized a grand rally at village Mukhyal of Jammu district to educate the people about the mission of Dr B R Ambedkar .A large number of people from different areas of the district participated in the rally. Addressing the rally, the former Governor and President of the Akademy Babu Parmanand deprecated the attitude of the state government towards the down trodden and weaker sections of the society. He alleged that Scheduled Castes have been denied their constitutional rights and their ratio in the service sector has been adequately reduced under SRO 294. Parmanand further alleged that the funds allocated for the development of Scheduled Caste community areas are being misused and diverted to other sectors and also referred several irregularities and bungling in the Social Welfare Department so far as funds meant for SCs, destitute widows and handicapped persons are concerned. Criticizing the Roshni Act, the former Governor, described ‘it as anti poor’ and called upon the people to rise to the occasion and fight for their rights. The meeting passed four resolutions demanding withdrawal of SRO 294, strict implementation of component plan as envisaged by the Planning Commission, clubbing of multiple centrally sponsored schemes and prioritizing the thrust areas of education, housing and income generating schemes. The rally also supported the clarion call of social equity given at Hindu Maha Sammelan held on January 21 last. Narinder Singh Rajwal Municipal Corporator, Chaman Lal Kanathia, Bodh Raj, Vijay Bhagat. Behari Lal, Puran Chand Bhagat and Sunil Dimple also addressed the rally.
