| 2 lakh soldiers in JK for internal security: Azad | | ‘Peace process is on’ | | SRINAGAR, AUG 02: Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad on Wednesday said that the strength of troops deployed in the Jammu and Kashmir for the internal security is two lakhs five thousand. “for maintaining the internal security of the state there are one lakh soldiers from the regular army and there are one lakh five thousand personnel from, Police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Border Security Force (BSF), deployed in the state,” Azad informed the members of the legislative council during his speech on human rights scenario in the state. Azad reiterated that government is striving hard for having zero tolerance in the state. “Action has been initiated against those officers and personnel from the security forces, who have been found guilty of violating the human rights. Till today 28 gazetted and 27 non gazetted officers from Police Army and BSF have been punished for violating the human rights,” said Azad. Azad further said, “ If action is taken against anybody from the force, it is not publicized. if such decisions are given publicity, it can demoralize the forces, which are meant for protecting us.” Azad, while referring to the peace process said, “ those people who say that peace process is slow seems to have taken a nap. Just in the span of few months two Round Table Conferences have taken place and government of India is trying its level best to talk to everybody to ascertain what they want.” He added, “On other hand we are making all the efforts for maintaining cordial relationship with Pakistan. We have started Poonch- Rawalkote bus service, were are even ready for trade. However, after the Mumbai blasts, India has given a message to Pakistan that violence and peace process cannot go together. Pakistan needs to realize that India cannot tolerate violence against its citizens.”
