| Hakim reviews National Highway position, transshipment of stranded passengers | | | Jammu, Feb 26 Minister for Transport Hakim Mohammad Yasin reviewed the transshipment of stranded passengers from Jammu to Panthal and Panthal to Srinagar and other parts of the valley at a high level officers meeting here today. Mr. Yasin said that government has already announced 20 percent concession on net fare to valley bound stranded passengers in State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) buses for Jammu to Panthal and Panthal to Srinagar journey and it will continue till the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway is properly re-opened for traffic. He assured the stranded passengers of all possible help from the government for safe onward journey to valley and said suitable arrangements have also been made at Panthal for crossing over the damaged stretch of highway on foot to reach the point where SRTC buses have been kept ready for onward journey. The Minister said that the transshipment of the stranded passengers is the only alternative to solve the problem of and every effort would be made to facilitate passengers for their onward journey to their homes and hearths. Giving details the Managing Director SRTC informed that during last two days nearly 8000 passengers were shifted from general bus stand Jammu to Panthal and from Panthal to Srinagar and other parts of the valley through about 200 sorties of SRTC buses and the process will continue till all the passengers reach safely to their destination. He said the SRTC is doing its best to handle the situation emerging out of disruption on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
