Workshop on Solid Waste Management held

Government Degree College for Women, Kathua in collaboration with World Wide Fund (WWF) India has organized a seminar on Solid Waste Management today
Minister for Youth Services and Sports Mr. Babu Singh was the chief Guest on the occasion.
Among others, Principal Government Degree college for women, Mr. Wani, Chairperson WWF India Mr. V.P. Sharma, Director WWF, India Mr. C.M. Seth, educationists, Prominent citizens, College professors, students and representatives of various NGOs were present on the occasion.
As many as seven students from different educational institutions took part in the seminar and read out their writings on the topic which kept the audience spellbound and suggested different ways for solid waste management.
Miss Seema Sharma bagged first position in the seminar while Tajwinder kour and Romi Sharma adjudged 2nd and 3rd respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Babu Singh apprised that Rs.1.46 lakh Solid waste management project has been sanctioned by Government of India for Kathua. He impressed upon all the citizens to keep their surroundings neat and clean.
The Minister emphasized the need that such type of seminars should be arranged in large scale to educate the masses in rural areas also.
Mr. V.P. Sharma explained in detail the activities of WWF India in general and J&K State in particular with regard to nature conservation and environment protection. Director WWF, J&K State Mr. C. M. Seth also spoke on the occasion.
Later, the Minister released first issue of News letter of WWF and presented prizes to the participants including first three position holders.
An amount of Rs. 2,29,000 has been sanctioned in favour of 42 participants comprising voluntary organizations and educational institutions. Minister distributed the cheques to the concerned on the occasion.
Earlier the function was started with lighting the traditional lamp and presentation of welcome address by principal, GDC( Women) Kathua.
