2/26/2007 11:57:44 PM

Jammu:
Secretary Health Jammu and Kashmir K B Jandial today inaugurated a five-day health camp organized at Marh block. This is a joint initiative of Hindustan Coca Cola Beverages Private Limited, Jammu unit, 26 Infantry Division of Indian Army and a leading NGO, 'Youth Club - Mission 2020'.

About eight thousand residents of various villages falling under the block are likely to get benefited through the diagnostic and free medicines facilities being offered at the camp. The doctors and paramedical assistance have been arranged, by the organizers, with active participation of the Red Cross, Health department of State government and 26 Infantry Brigade of the Army.

The five-day camp covering about eight villages of the block, is offering eye checkup, ENT check-up, check by skin specialists / dermatologists, physicians and gynecologists (for the women-folk). Lectures on health awareness and medical advice to the villagers would also be provided during the camp. The villagers would also be given chance to discuss their health related problems with the doctors and volunteers during the question-answer sessions to be conducted during the camp.

Complimenting the Coca Cola and the Youth Club for their initiative, Jandial said that It is good to see private sector coming forward to partner with the communities in areas like health. The participation of private companies like Coca-Cola in the development of local communities is a mark of how seriously they take their social responsibility. The active participation of the local NGOs, Red Cross and people, with the support of corporate and other organizations, in such programmes, can ensure that the social objectives are achieved.

He further added that the state government has also accorded top priority to the health of the citizens of the state and have come forward with various schemes for the benefit of the people, particularly the rural masses, to whom latest amenities and services fail to reach unless through the concerted efforts of either the health department of the government or private initiatives like this one.

According to Area General Manager (J&K) of Coca Cola, Pankaj Tahpliyal, The Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages has always placed high value on good citizenship. At the heart of business is a simple mission statement called the 'Coca-Cola Promise'. It says, quite simply, that" The Coca-Cola Company exists to benefit and refresh everyone who is touched by our business". This basic proposition that the company's business should bring benefit and refreshment - is central to the way Coca-Cola operates in communities around the world. Coca-Cola India provides extensive support for community programmes across the country, with a focus on education, health and water conservation, all key priorities of the Indian Government. The Company has always taken a lead in carrying on activities that benefit local community.

Also speaking on the occasion, general secretary of the club, Puneet Sharma gave details of the camp and threw light on the activities of his organization. He said that the Youth Club - Mission 2020 has been active in the state for last four years and offering services to the youth in the areas like health and girl-education besides spreading awareness about beneficial schemes.

Prominent among those present on the occasion were Lt. Col. N S Jamwal of 26 Infantry Division, director health services Jasbeer Singh, Dinesh Gupta from Red Cross and block president of All Youth Club Federation, Shakti Sharma.
