| Awareness programme on rural godowns held | | | JAMMU, FEBRUARY 26 Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural sciences& Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J), in collaboration with Directorate of Marketing and Inspection, Govt. of India, and Department of Agriculture organized a three days farmer awareness programme on Rural Godowns at Chenani. More than 55 farmers from different villages of Chenani block attended the programme. In the inaugural function, Dr. Parmod Baru Director Extension Education while welcoming the participants and dignitaries highlighted the potential of area for the vegetable production, cereals & oilseeds. He stressed that the farmers should take benefit of such government schemes, which are highly beneficial for their socio-economic upliftment. Additional Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur, Sh. Khurshid Bhat inaugurated the programme and appreciated the efforts of SKUAST-Jammu & other departments for sensitizing the farmers about Central sector Schemes. He highlighted the need to avail the benefits of Rural Godown Scheme for scientific & safe storage of grains in the rural areas by farmers. Mr. Romesh Tiwari, Marketing officer Directorate of Marketing and Inspection, Ministry of Agriculture Govt. of India, Jammu apprised the farmers about the objectives and functions of Central sector Scheme on Rural Godown (Gramin Bhandaran Yojna). He stressed upon the farmers to come forward for the establishment of rural Godowns in their villages on individual or community basis. Dr. R.K Arora, Deputy Director Extension Education expressed gratitude to the farmers & other participants for their interest & enthusiasm to avail the opportunity of establishing the rural Godowns in their areas. Mr. Ajab Singh, Agriculture Extension Officer & Mr. Sunil Gupta, JAA of the area from Department of Agriculture were also present on the occasion |
