| CPI (M) activists stage dharna against price hike | | | JAMMU, FEB 27 The activists of regional committee of CPI (M) Jammu led by Comrade Bishan Dass staged dharna in front of Divisional Commissioners’ office here today to protest against the rise in prices of essential commodities and presented a memorandum to the Divisional Commissioner in this regard. Addressing the party activists, Sham Prasad Kesar Regional Secretary of the party squarely held the Central Government responsible for the rise in prices and felt that the major reason for rise in prices is attributed to the UPA government’s refusal to reserve the steps taken by the BJP led NDA Government in 2003 to lift restrictions on future trading in agricultural commodities. ‘In the last three years, there has been over 600 per cent increase in the total value of commodities traded in the market’, he alleged.. Kishore Kumar senior committee member said that the prices of onion have gone up from Rs.16 to Rs.26 per kg during the last two weeks due to the mismanagement and wrong policies of the state and the central governments. OP Sanyal and Om Prakash who also addressed the protestors urged the government to take immediate steps to check the rising trend in the prices of the essential commodities and strengthen the public distribution system.
