| NC leaders most protected ones: Azad | | |
SRINAGAR, AUG 02: Members of the Legislative Council from National Conference tried cornering the government over the issue of security and the number of vehicles provided to the leaders from the party. NC members staged a walk out from the council to press for their demand of increasing the security of the party leaders. However, Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad, pacified the NC MLCs and he informed the house that maximum number of the protected people are from NC. NC members created furore in the house over the issue of vehicles allotted to the party leaders. They blamed the government of providing them (NC) leaders with inadequate security and fewer number of vehicles. Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad, who also holds the home portfolio, told the house, “212 NC leaders have been provided with the security, whereas only 96 leaders from Congress party and 63 leaders from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have been provided with the security cover.” He added, “ I want to clear the misconception from the minds of the NC leaders that they are being discriminated. One more thing NC leaders should bear in mind that more vehicles does not mean enhanced security.” NC members, tried raising the issue of the human rights violations in the state, however, Chairman of the Legislative Council tried pacifying them and told them that debate on human rights has to be held after the question hour. NC members insisted that government, should render an explanation. Chief Minister stood up and said, “ You people just keep on cribbing about human rights violations being done by the security forces, it is astonishing that you people do not raise your voice, when human rights are violated from the other side.”
