Restoring glory of heritage places is to preserve history: Azad
Mubarak Mandi Complex renovation project to cost Rs.43.74 cr

Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad has underscored the need for preservation and protection of hundred old heritage places of the state embodying rich composite ethos, architectural excellency, art and skill of the people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh. He said “by restoring old grandeur of these places we are preserving our history”, adding that all necessary measures should be taken for renovation and restoration of heritage places.
Chief Minister was presiding over a high level meeting, convened at the gray hall of Mubarak Mandi Complex here last evening to review the pace of progress of renovation work of Mubarak Mandi heritage complex. The meeting also discussed other modalities for the development of this heritage place.
Mr. Azad said that Mubarak Mandi Complex would be developed as a tourist destination and socio-cultural cum heritage centre.
While giving a presentation in the meeting it was informed that a project report of Rs.43.74 crore have been prepared for restoration of old glory of the complex by ITDC and submitted to Government of India for funding under Destination Development Scheme. It was informed that Rs.4.37 crore have already been sanctioned under the project and Rs.3 crore have been released for taking up the renovation work of heritage complex.
The meeting was told that under first phase construction and renovation of heritage hotel, art and entertainment hall, state crafts centre, museum, convention hall, tourist complex, underground car parking, king hall, royal chamber, Rani Mahal and gole ghar would be completed.
Among others the meeting was attended by Minister for Tourism Mr. Mohammad Dilawar Mir, Minister for R&B Mr. Gulchain Singh Charak, Chief Secretary Mr. C. Phunsog, Principal Secretary Planning and Development Mr. S.S. Kapoor, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Mr. Anil Goswami, Principal Secretary Higher Education and Tourism Mr. A.K. Angurana, Divisional Commissioner Jammu Mr. Pramod Jain, Secretary R&B Mr. Shalindera Kumar, Director Archives Mr. K.A. Qadri, Director Tourism Jammu Mr. Ajay Khajuria, and Chief Engineer R&B Jammu.
Chief Minister directed the concerned authorities to prepare project report for renovation of other heritage places of the state well in time and submit the same for funding to centre government under various scheme. He said Indian National Trust for Cultural, Art and Heritage (INTAC) would be asked to prepare the documentation for the Mubarak Mandi Complex immediately. He said the matter for additional funding and official consultancy would be also taken up with the Central Ministry of Tourism, Cultural, Urban Development and other agencies.
He instructed that all the electric lines and telephone lines should be laid under ground and for the purpose he directed the power Development Department to submit a proposal for completion of the same work.
Earlier Chief Minister inspected the progress of renovation work in the archives located in the basement of Divisional Commissioner’s office and instructed the concerned authorities to redouble efforts and complete all the renovation work of the complex well in time. He also directed to ensure the use of quality material for renovation of this heritage place.
