Vikar asks officers to complete new ITIs on fast track basis

JAMMU: Minister of State for Technical Education, Mr. Vikar Rasool has asked to officers to complete the ongoing work on new ITI complexes on fast-track basis so as to augment the infrastructure capacities for the benefit of the youth studying there.
The Minister was addressing officers during a review meeting of the Technical Education Department here today.
Commissioner/Secretary, Technical Education, Mr Shaleen Kabra, Director Technical Education, Mr J.P. Singh and other senior officers of the department were present.
The Minister directed the officers to work in close coordination so that the funds earmarked under different centrally as well as state sponsored schemes are utilized to the maximum so that the benefit of these reaches the student community at earliest. He said that 'we have to ensure that the infrastructure assets are also to be completed and a new courses should also be introduced for the general benefit of the students studying there'.
Mr Vikar also asked the officers to fix time lines for the completion of various ITI buildings being constructed across the state so that they can be formally dedicated to the students. He said that officers of executing agencies should also ensure that these are replete with all modern facilities.
The meeting was told an amount of Rs.135 crore has been released by the Centre for construction of 18 new polytechnics in the State. Similarly, an amount of Rs 383 crore has been spent for upgradation of 66 existing old Polytechnics and purchase of latest equipment, machinery, books, etc. It was also given out that an amount of Rs one crore each has been sanctioned for six polytechnics of the state including Jammu, Srinagar, Leh and Kargil.
It was also given out that an amount of Rs 29.07 crore has been spent under Prime Minister's Reconstruction Plan phase-I for establishment of nine ITIs and 12 Women Wings in the existing ITIs.
Similarly, under Prime Minister's Reconstruction Plan phase-II an amount of Rs 12.99 crore has been spent for establishment of 5 new ITIs at Hajin, Gurez, Nowshera, Bani and Banihal. Twenty-five Trade Units are to be introduced with an Intake capacity of 540 trainees in these.
It was also told that under Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode 34 ITIs have been covered in the ITI sector and an amount of Rs 20.68 crore has been spent till March this year.
Similarly, 3000 candidates have been trained under Skill Development initiative and 6042 candidates are undergoing training and 272 VTPs have been registered in the state.
