| Avoid use of pesticides, Zargar asks industrialists | | | Jammu, February 28
The industrial units at Samba would continue suspension of using 24-D pesticides during manufacturing process.
The decision to this effect was taken at a high level meeting convened here today under the chairmanship of Minister for Agriculture Mr. Abdul Aziz Zargar.
The meeting also decided that the Pollution Control Board would ensure that industrial units are fitted with the Pollution Control Devices and teams of the Board would conduct regular inspections of the units for the purpose.
Addressing the meeting Mr. Zargar said that the assessment of damages caused to the crops due to the emission of pollutants is being ascertained so as to compensate the farmers for the losses.
He said that industrial growth should not accelerate at the cost of agriculture produce adding that both are essential for overall development.
The meeting was attended by Minister of State for Education Mr. Manjit Singh, Chief Secretary Mr. C.Phunsog, Principal Secretary Agriculture, Mr. S. S. Sahai, Commissioner/ Secretary Forests Mr. Atal Duloo, Secretary Agriculture Mrs. Tanveera Jahan, Chairman Pollution Control Board, Director industries and Commerce, Managing Director SIDCO, Director Extension SKUAST Jammu, Director Command Area Development Jammu, Director Agriculture Jammu, representatives of pesticide unit holders Jammu and Farmers from Samba. |
