| Geology & Mining generates revenue of Rs. 10 cr during current year | | | Jammu, February 28 The Department of Geology and Mining has generated a revenue to the tune of Rs. 10 crore during the current financial year by way of collection of royalties on major and miner minerals. The present figure is significantly higher than the previous year which was recorded Rs. 7.22 crore. The increase has been possible due to certain hard decisions taken by the present management with regard to curb the leakage and illegal transportation of major and minor minerals at different places in the State. To further boost the revenue collection, the department is contemplating to take some more stringent measures which include collection of royalty especially from the contractors of IRCON who are extracting clay and other materials from Athwajan and Pantha Chowk areas in Valley for construction of Qazigund-Baramulla railway line. Presently they are not paying any royalty to the department on this account and causing considerable loss to the department. |
