| Police eliminates top LeT commander in encounter | | Fidayeen attack on Rajbhawan, MLA hostel averted: IG Jammu | | JAMMU, FEB 28 A top Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) commander has been allegedly eliminated by Jammu and Kashmir police this morning. Police has claimed that it has successfully foiled militants’ plan of mounting a fidayeen attack on Raj Bhawan and MLA hostel in Jammu by successfully eliminating one of the most wanted militant commander of Lashkar-e-Toiba, Abu Tallah in an exclusive operation in Rajwalata forest under the jurisdiction of police station Billawar in Kathua district. Giving information of the exclusive operation carried out by a special operations group, Inspector General of Police Jammu range SP Vaid told reporters in a press conference,” as per our information Abu Tallah was planning a fidayeen attack in two places in Jammu i.e. Raj Bhawan and MLA hostel and was expanding his area of network in Jammu and Kathua districts. But before he could execute his dangerous plans he has been executed. Abu Tallah was also considered one of the master minds behind the minority killing of 35 villagers in Kulhand and Basantgarh. Vaid said, Abu Tallah was active in Doda, Bhaderwah and Udhampur for last 10 years and was actively involved in executing attacks on security forces and civilians in the region.
According to police reports, six cases of attacks on security forces and civilians were registered against the dreaded militant. Vaid further said that Abu Tallah was also involved in planning of militant attack on Army camp in Kathua. Giving details on the killings Vaid said,” police party from Jammu and Kathua cordoned the village Safian and during search apprehended two persons Latif Bakerwal and Naseer Ahmed code Raju of Sarna Bhaderwah, a local trained LeT militant and associate of Abu Tallah. Vaid said during his interrogation they disclosed that Abu Tallah escaped to a near by forest area and when the police party started search for LeT Commander Abu Tallah lobbed three grenades and started firing In the retaliatory fire Abu Tallah was killed by police. Vaid said one AK-56 rifle, two magazines, and 28 rounds and one cell phone were seized from the slain rebel. He said one policeman was wounded when a bullet fired by Abu Tallah hit his leg.Vaid said "on the whole activities of militants had witnessed marked decline during the last one year after a rollback of the rebels and dwindling strength in the manpower of Hizbul Mujahideen outfit. He, however, stated that the vacuum created by loss of Manpower of Hizbul Mujahideen was being filled by "Foreign mercenaries, especiually those belonging to Lashkar-i-Toiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad."He said "since our operations have been given teeth we will be able to eliminate those trying to kick up violence.
