| Jammu Hajji’s alleges discrimination by State Hajj Committee | | | Jammu/ Aug 2: Hajj aspirants of Jammu Division expressed their resentment against the lottery system used by State Hajj Committee to select the Hajji’s. Jammu Division Hajji’s Aspirants Forum (JDHAF) in a meeting took serious note of the vindictive attitude of the State Convener of Hajj Committee and Minister for Hajj and Auqaf. Chairman JDHAF, Shaq Mohd Malik alleged that Hajj Committee, J&K has allotted only 976 seats to the Jammu people as against the allotted quota of 1323 seats by Hajj Committee, Mumbai. From Jammu only 1290 persons had applied for Hajj, which is well within the quota for Jammuites. But, they deliberately applied lottery system which is completely meaningless and was aimed at benefiting valley based peoples. Forum has also sent a representation in this regard to State Hajj Convener (Divisional Commissioner, (Srinagar), Hajj and Auqaf Minister and Chief Minister as well for removing the anomaly with Muslims of Jammu Province. Forum has demanded inclusion of 2-3 members from Jammu Province into the State Hajj Committee. Forum also demanded that Hajji’s shall be sent via Delhi instead of Srinagar as the weather of Srinagar is not favorable for Jammu Hajji’s. Forum has threatened to withdraw in all and none of the Hajji’s from Jammu province would go for Hajj, if the government fails to concede their genuine demands.
