SAMBA: The newly constructed Bus Stand in Samba town will be soon thrown open for the buses arriving here from various areas. This was disclosed by District Development Commissioner, R K Verma, while chairing a meeting convened to discuss various issued with the stakeholders before opening the New Bus Stand for the Traffic. Speaking on the occasion, the DDC said operationalization of new bus stand has become imperative to avoid haphazard parking of heavy and light vehicles along the National Highway/roads that lead to frequent traffic jams and accidents, besides creating public nuisance as people find difficult to move around. He said that footpaths have been encroached by vendors and hawkers which has added to the congestion. DDC said that civil society is persistently demanding full operationalisation of the New Bus Stand and that with the diversion of all matadors, taxis, buses, and three wheelers to the new bus stand, the movement of vehicles and pedestrian through the town will be eased. In the meeting, the participants raised various issues with regard to facilities at the Bus stand which included water supply, sanitation, functioning of toilet complex and water coolers. The DDC assured that all the basic amenities will be provided at the new Bus Stand. The meeting among others was also attended by ADC Samba Bikram Jamwal, Chief Planning Officer Sant Ram, ARTO Verinder Maniyal, SDPO Samba, Executive Officer Municipal committee, besides president Taxi Union, Samba. |
