| White Knight Corps launches “Clean Garrison-Green Garrison” | | | ‘Jammu, Aug. 2: White Knight Corps. Upholding the Army’s tradition has launched the drive to improve the ecological profile of Nagrota Military Station.
The drive with motto “Clean Garrison- Green Garrison” launched under the aegis of Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA) 16 Corps, on 2nd Aug. was inaugurated by
Officiating President of the Association Ritu Jaswal by planting saplings of hybrid varieties of fruit trees at children’s park in Sitni, Sheila and White Knight Enclave colonies. This was stated here in a press release issued by the Corps.
The Rank and File of the Corps with families and children took part in the function, the release said, adding that about 8000 saplings have been planted by the Association since 2004 out of which more than 60% are surviving. The aim of such event is to create an awareness of importance of preserving the environment among the children, the release further said; with the plan of each family planting a sapling the environment will get a facelift.
AWWA’s this year’s plan target is to plant 5000 trees of fruit bearing, ornamental and medicinal nature, in which Social Forestry Deptt. is giving a helping hand by providing the saplings.
