Governor reviews ex-servicemen welfare measures

Governor Lt. Gen (Retd) S K Sinha today lauded the contribution of Army in defending territorial integrity and extending support to civilians in hour of need.
Addressing 54th meeting of the State Managing Committee of Rajya Sainik Board here this morning, Governor said that in recognition to the services rendered by armed forces, the society as a whole has to rise to help in measures being taken for improving the quality of life and welfare of ex-servicemen.
The Governor referred to the initiatives being taken by the Central and the State Government for solving the problems of ex-servicemen and implementing various welfare schemes for their families.
Chief Secretary, Mr C Phunsog, Financial Commissioner, Home, Mr B R Kundal, Chief of Staff, Northern Command, Lt. General Rajinder Singh, Chief of Staff, 16 Corps, Maj General Sheonan Singh, Chief of Staff 15 Corps Maj Gen S N Handa, Commandant JAKLI Regimental Centre, Brig Shakti Prasad, Dy GOC 26th Inf Div, Brig R L Sharma and representatives from Kendriya Sainik Board New Delhi.
Director Rajya Sainik Board, Brig (Retd) K S Kotwal dwelt on the details about the status of various sainik sarais all over the State and provision of assistants to dependents of martyrs and ex-servicemen.
The meeting was informed that preliminary work has been started on the state-of-art Sainik Bhavan in Srinagar while land for sainik sarai at Baramulla has been identified for taking up construction soon. The Government has also released the state share of Rs 8.47 lakhs for construction of Sainik Aramgarh at Delhi. Similarly, efforts are underway for constructing a sainik sarai at Rajour soon.
The meeting discussed grant of medical aid to ex-servicemen and war widows besides their dependents and scholarships to meritorious students. The Board also contemplates to provide financial assistance to such of the students of these categories who excel in academics.
The meeting also discussed budgetary proposals for the ensuing financial year.
