Training camps under National Watershed Project organized at Reasi

Under National Watershed Development Project for rainfed areas, the Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer, Reasi organized six training camps for watershed association, self-help groups and user groups at village Panasa in Reasi block and village Saloon in Pouni block of Tehsil Reasi of Udhampur district since 20th February 2007.
During the training camps, the watershed development team comprising of Agriculture Extension Officer as team leader, with Horticulture Development Officer, Soil Conservation Assistant, Block Veterinary Officer and Range Officer Social Forestry gave a detailed awareness in respect of formation of self help groups to set up their own income generating units by adopting mushroom cultivation, floriculture, apiculture, dairy, cutting and tailoring and vegetable growing to raise their socio-economic standard under National Watershed Development Project.
While interacting with the participating farmers belonging to watershed areas of concerned villages, the Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer said that it takes more than 1000 years to form one inch soil but the soil is eroded at the alarming rate i.e. 5.3 billion tones per year by water and wind erosion. So the main aim and objective of the watershed is to conserve the soil and water through the integrated development of watershed community by making proper aforestation for maintaining the ecological balance.
During the training camps main stress was laid for the latest techniques in the field of agriculture, horticulture, floriculture, social forestry bee keeping, mushroom growing and various development schemes under watershed schemes to percolate the benefits of all watershed schemes at the grass root level. The farmers were also asked to come forward and took active part in implementation of development schemes in rain fed areas to obtain maximum benefits for their upliftment.
Those who delivered lectures include subject matter specialist, Bock Veterinary Officer, Soil Conservation Assistant, Range Officer Social Forestry, Agriculture Extension Officer and Junior Agriculture Assistants concerned.
