| Sakina addresses a series of public gatherings in DH Pora | | | SRINAGAR: As a continuous effort of the Government to reach out at the doors of the common masses especially in far-flung and remote areas, the Minister for Social Welfare, Ms Sakina Itoo today conducted a whirlwind tour of various areas of her constituency. During the tour, she visited the areas including Damhal Hanjipora, Hardmandguri and Checki RambirPora and addressed a series of public meetings. She also took stock of the pace of on-going development works and redresses the grievances of the villagers on the spot. Addressing a mammoth gathering at Check-i-RambirPora, the Minister said that their long pending demand from the last 50 years of upgradation of middle school to High School has already been met by the present Government under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. She said, the Government is committed of the equally development of the three regions of the State particularly of far flung and remote areas. She said since the present Government came into existence, a network of the road connectivity had taken place in the State and efforts are on to connect every village with towns and cities, so that the people of those neglected areas may also be able to avail the benefits of the transport. However, she cautioned the people about those elements who do not want their prosperity and are befooling them with their false propaganda and promises. Ms. Sakina said that hundreds of schools have been upgraded while scores of colleges have been opened in every corner of the State so that the students having weak economic conditions could avail chances to carry forward their higher education. She said accordingly the youth of these areas especially female students have this facility within the parameters of their access and now they have not to go to District headquarters for this purpose. Earlier, the Minister said that the State is marching ahead on many developmental fronts, giving exposure to budding youth in the field of sports, at the inauguration of late Wali Mohammad Itoo play filed at the DhamalHanjipora in district Kulgam. The Minister said that the development of local playfield was the long pending demand of the people of the area, adding that the playfield was developed by utilizing Rs. 16 lakh. She said Rs. 9.98 lakh have been incurred by Rural Development through MGNREGA for levelling and construction of protection-wall (Bund) and Rs.5 lakh by the Department of Youth Service and Sports for earth filling through rural development department. She said that the play field needs yet more development for which she directed officers of RDD and Sports departments for taking early steps so that sports activities could be conducted comfortably in the field. Highlighting the importance of sports in keeping the youth physically and mentally sound, the Minister said that sports inculcates discipline, team spirit and instant decision making sense. She said the J&K youth has tremendous sports talent and stressed to chisel it in in better way so that they could exhibit it. She said that the sports persons of the state have proved their mettle in various sports activities at international and national levels and brought laurels to the state. She said that the State Government has formulated a policy to encourage the ace sports persons. Ms. Sakina said that sports fields are also being developed under PYKKA for exploiting hidden sports potential of rural youth. The youth of the valley have also exhibited their talent while played Kashmir Primer League (KPL). The Minister thousands of unemployed youths have been covered under Sher-i-Kashmir Welfare Programme as they were provided easy loans for establishing their income generating units to earn their livelihood with the respect and dignity. She asked the youth to be employer rather employee and not hanker about government jobs. Responding to the demands for providing cricket kits and other sports equipment, the Minister assured that required sports equipment would be provided. Shedirected the officers to utilising the funds judiciously by adhering quality work. She also stressed on Panches, Sarpanches and Village Committee to keep a close watch on the utilisation of funds. Responding to demands of people at Hardmandguri, the Minister said that directions have already been passed to the concerned for repairing DH Pora-Hardmandguri-Check RanbirPora road, adding that their other genuine demands including installation of Tube Well for fresh water supply, Irrigation canal for orchards would be looked into. She said that the issues including opening of Timber Depots, issuing of fresh BPL ration cards, deployment of more teaching Staff in Schools and bringing the area at tourist map would be taken to appropriate quarters. |
