| Initiate strict remedial measures to protect environment: Environment Committee | | | Jammu, March 01 Environment Committee of Legislative Assembly has stressed upon the Departments of Environment and Pollution Control Board to take immediate remedial measures to protect and maintain environments and ecological balance. Whole world is concerned about the menace of unprecedented pollution generated from different sources and efforts are being made by different organizations to tackle with the issue. The Committee has directed the Environment, Forests and Pollution Control Departments to maintain proper coordination with other agencies involved in the process to achieve better results. The emphasis was laid that the departments should review situation periodically and ensure that the norms are strictly observed by various industrial units in whose favour NOCs have been issued. The Forest Department should conduct regular afforestation drives in affected areas and strictly observe the Supreme Court guidelines not to fell green trees from the forests. The Committee also observed that the departments should launch vigorous awareness campaigns through print and electronic media besides holding seminars highlighting the importance of environment in day to day life and measures to protect it. Schools, colleges, NGOs and other institutions should also be involved which can play a very important role in this direction, the Committee maintained.
