Jammu, Mar 01 President municipal committee Banihal has appealed state government for speeding up the ongoing work at Panthihal, as the Beacon failed to get the road through even after lapse of eight day. He however hailed the air lifting of stranded passengers from Jammu to Srinagar. In a statement issued here today, Banihal Municipal committee president, Vikar Rasool blamed Border Road Organization for not finding lasting solution of the problem. He alleged that Beacon has spent crores of rupees on this strip but all in vain. He said that the spot has killed hundreds of people so far and nothing was done by the Beacon authorities for maintenance this road strip. “Crores of rupees are being spent on the maintenance of the National Highway and the Panthihal strip has become money making machine for the Becon officials” he alleged. Expressing anxiety over the delay in opening of the road, Vikar said that the area is facing severe shortage of essential commodities including food grains, Vegetables and cooking gas. Meanwhile, Municipal committee Banihal has hailed prime Minister and Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad for taking decision of providing free air service to stranded passengers. He said that Center UPA government has always came to the rescue of the state during all odd times, be it the earth quake or snow tsunami, the congress leadership under the guidance of UPA chairperson Smt Sonia Gandhi has always been on the doorstep of the people of the state
