| Highway opens; one-way traffic today | | | Jammu |Banihal | March 2 After remaining closed for about nine days, 300-Kilometers long Jammu-Srinagar National Highway was opened for the vehicular movement, today, after the Becon officials declared the road fit. Official sources said that in view of the improvement in the weather conditions and completion of the repair work, there would be one-way traffic from Jammu to Srinagar on Saturday. Deputy Inspector General of Police (Traffic) Muhammad Amin Shah told News Agency of Kashmir that the Highway has been thrown for vehicular movement from today. “About 3000 vehicles stranded on the highway, mostly trucks, were allowed to cross through Panthihal today”, he said. “The damaged stretch at Panthihal has been repaired by the Border Road Organisation and there would be one-way traffic from Jammu to Srinagar on Saturday”, he added. The highway was blocked due to the landslides which had damaged more than 110 meters of road at Panthihal near Ramban. Thousands of people were stranded in Jammu and Srinagar cities due to the blockade of the road. |
