Coalition Government fails in tackling militancy, alleges Anan Sharma
SOFT TALK WITH SUNNY
8/2/2006 10:10:44 PM
Shiv Sena Jammu and Kashmir Branch has taken exception of the government’s appeasing policy towards the militants responsible for fomenting trouble in the state and killing hundreds of innocent civilians.
Those advocating for Pakistan within the Indian soil are roaming freely at the behest of the authorities and are carrying on their malicious propaganda without any check and more so their activities have gained momentum even since Ghulam Nabi Azad took over as the Chief Minister of the State. Those who are responsible for the murders and bomb blasts are being patronized both by the State and the Central governments
This was stated by Anan Sharma, President, Shiv Sena (Bal Thakeray), J&K State, in an exclusive interview with EARLY TIMES here today. The Shiv Sena leader talked in detail on various issues and some of the excerpts of the interview are produced hereunder.

Q. How you see the attitude of the state government in dealing with the militancy in
Jammu and Kashmir, has it increased since the new chief minister took over?
A: Well, it seems that the state coalition government has failed miserably in tackling the militant activities in the state. When Ghulam Nabi Azad took over the reins from Mufti Sayed, it was expected that things would improve, but contrary to the fact the situation worsened and selective killings continued unabated. The militant incidents showed an alarming increase even the tourists have been made the soft targets.
When Azad got elected to the state assembly from his home constituency Doda with a record margin of votes, people had hoped that peace will return in the trouble torn state. But what we see today is increase in militant activities particularly after the Srinagar Round Table Conference This, he said, is attributed to the weak policies of the centre as well as the state government in dealing with militancy.
Q: Shiv Sena disrupted the Press conference of Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani and also staged demonstration against the rally of another Hurriyat leader Umar Farooq here in Jammu. Your comment ?
A: Yes, we have opposed their rally or holding any interaction with media persons in Jammu and in future also we won’t allow them to do so in the city of temples. It is shame on the part of the government that those supporting militancy are given security while pro-Indian and the nationalist forces are being harassed by the state administration. We will never allow our land to be used for anti-India activities. For the last 16years the state is facing the brunt of militancy, who apart from making selective killings made abortive attempts to communalize the situation, he said adding that Jammuties deserves every appreciation, who not only foiled the machinations of the militants but maintained the age old tradition of communal amity and brotherhood.
Q: You are receiving threat calls from the militants and their mentors from across the border. Are you planning to go to Srinagar to hold anti-militant rally there. What you have to say on this?
A: Shiv Sena strongly condemn the police action on its activists by not allowing the rally to proceed towards Srinagar beyond Nagrota police post. The participants from Kathua were also stopped at Chadwal. It is evident that the present chief minister is hell bent to make J&K a Muslim State, where Hindus are being restricted to express their feelings .Hindus are being deprived of their fundamental rights even. I am also receiving threat calls from militants (phone no. 0301 PAKTEL) on regular intervals and have reported this matter to the concerned authorities, but no extra security has been given to me so far. I was advised not to attend the Phone calls from the said number. In near future, Shiv Sena is going to convene all parties meet of Hindu parties to protest against the atrocities of the coalition Government being perpetrated on the nationalist forces, he said adding that future course of action about holding a rally at Srinagar would be decided at the meeting.
Q. Recently Shiv Sena activists were detained at Nagrota as you were planned to go to Srinagar to hold a anti-militant rally in Srinagar. What you have to say on this?
A: Shiv Sena strongly condemn the police action on the activists of the Shiv Sena by not allowing the rally to proceed towards Srinagar beyond the Nagrota police post. The participants from Kathua were also stopped at Chadwal. It is evident that the present chief minister is hell bent to make the J&K a Muslim State ,where Hindus are being restricted to express their feelings .Hindus are being deprived from their fundamental
Rights even. I am also receiving threat calls from militants (phone no. 0301 PAKTEL) on regular intervals and I also reported this matter to the concerning authorities, but no extra security has been given to me so far. As I was advised not to attend the Phone calls from the said number. In near future ,Shiv Sena is going to convene a all parties meet of all Hindu parties to protest the atrocities of the coalition Govt. being faced by the nationalist forces and the course of the action will be decided to hold the protest rally at Srinagar.
