| SPO turned HM commander, body guard killed | | | Jammu | Mar 2 A former Special Police Officer (SPO) and a senior commander of Hizbul Mujahideen (Peer Panchal Range), carrying a reward of Rs 5 lakh on his head, among two militants were killed by Army and police in a joint operation in border district of Rajouri, late last evening. An official spokesman said that the slain militant commander was most wanted militant in the area and was responsible for several militancy related cases including killing of ten persons of a particular community. Reports reaching here revealed that based on the leads provided by intelligence agencies, Army and police launched a joint operation in Morha Deraj area of district Rajouri, late on Thursday evening. The troops cordoned off the area where the suspected militants were hiding, sources said. A fierce gunbattle followed in which militants managed to gun down the HM commander and his personnel bodyguard. The slain militants have been identified as Muhammad Yasin and his guard Shaffat. A senior police officer told that the slain HM commander was most wanted militant in the area and was carrying a reward of rupees five lakh on his head. Having joined HM after deserting police, Yasin was claimed to be mastermind behind the killing of ten persons of a particular community in the area. Two AK rifles, six grenades, and a sophisticated wireless set were recovered from the site of encounter.
