| People appreciate Azad for free airlifting stranded passengers | | | Jammu | Mar 02 People from all walks of life have hailed the timely action of Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad in solving the hardship of stranded passengers owing to National Highway blockade at Panthal. They said that Mr Azad as always alive to every need of people, in a fraction of minutes, arranged highly sought and appropriate succour to the stranded passengers by taking up the matter with Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh resulting in the operation of Air Force planes to airlift the stranded passengers from Jammu to Srinagar and vice-versa. Mr. Azad himself monitored the whole operation on hour to hour basis having close liaison with Air Force authorities through his office and placing Divisional Commissioners of Jammu and Kashmir divisions in place to oversee the smooth conduct of airlifting operation. The operation during which about 9000 stranded passengers including men, women, children and old aged have been airlifted to their destinations by arranging 61 sorties of IAF planes completed smoothly. People, commenting upon the highly people friendly gesture of Mr. Azad said that it is for the first time in the history of Jammu and Kashmir that over 9000 stranded passengers have been airlifted within two days and that too free of any cost. People also appreciated the role of Army and Air Force and political parties for arranging langars, transit camps and other facility providing arrangements for stranded passengers. Efforts of local administration particularly those of Divisional Commissioner Jammu Mr. Pramod Jain and Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Mr. Basharat Ahmad for ensuring dispatch of all stranded passengers to their destinations with all care also received wide ranging appreciation.
