| BSF Jawan arrested for illegally carrying arms | | One AK47 rifle some ammunition recovered from his possession | | Rajouri |Mar 4 In a dramatic move, Police on Saturday arrested a Border Security Force (BSF) Jawan on the charges of carrying illegal arms and ammunitions in border district Rajouri. One AK47 rifle and some ammunition were recovered from his possession and further investigations were in progress, police claimed. The militancy connections of the arrested BSF jawan can not be ruled out, said a senior police officer. Giving details, sources said, acting on the special inputs that a BSF jawan working with G-branch (an intelligence wing) posted in Manjakote area of border district Rajouri was carrying some illegal arms and ammunition, the police party of Manjakote Police station laid a trap through a civilian and arrested the BSF jawan when he was handing over AK 47 rifle to a civilian against the payment of Rs70, 000 cash. The arrested jawan identified as Javaid Iqbal son of Jalal Din resident of village Khanater in neighbouring border district Poonch was posted in Manjakote area for the past more than five years. Sources said, the police is investigating the case very secretly and in depth to ascertain whether the arms and ammunition was supplied to militants through this channel. “As the case is at the preliminary stage nothing can be said in concrete at this stage. But we are investigating all the angels particularly the militancy angle of these arms”, SHO Manjakote , Ashiq Hussain Shah told The reliable sources said that as the area falls near LoC where this jawan posted and he had smuggled these arms from across the border for militants . And this channel was utilised by the militants since the borders were wired. Some more arrests are possible in the coming few days said sources. Despite the repeated attempts none of the BSF source could be contacted for their comments in this regard.
