| PDP trying to put up a brave front | | | Jammu, March 4 The PDP leadership is unfazed by the unwritten alliance forged by its Congress partner with the opposition National Conference for the election to the posts of mayor and Deputy Mayor in Jammu Municipal Corporation. Though the alliance was forged by the Congress without informing its ally, the PDP,the latter does not find any political meaning in the corporation poll alliance. A senior PDP leader and a former Minister,Mr Ghulam Hassan Mir,told Kashmir Independent Press today "we had no stake in the Corporation poll and hence the alliance of convenience between the congress and the National Conference will have no impact on the survival of the ruling coalition." In reply to a question Mr Mir said that the Saturday's statemenmt of Prime Minister,Dr Manmohan Singh, regarding reduction of troops in Jammu and Kashmir was a reply for the APHC chairman,Molvi Umar Farooq. He explained that "it is not a snub for the PDP leadership which is demanding reduction in the level of troops." He said the Prime Minister had stated that reduction of troops could be considered once"the level of terrorism ceases." He said that the PDP has demanded reduction of troops and "this does not mean that reduction should take place immediately." Mr Mir said that "we have voiced our demand. It has to be explained.we have to lobhy for it." He added that there was no link between "our demand and our support to the coalition Government"adding that the coalition rule will last its full term.(KIP) |
