Soz hails Rahul for showing interest in funding JK Panchayats

Srinagar, June 29 (KNS): Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee President, Prof Saifuddin Soz has thanked AICC vice president Rahul Gandhi for showing keen interest in providing grant of Rs 10 lakh each for panchayats in the state. "It is very widely known in J&K State that. Rahul Gandhi has contributed quite a lot to empower Panchayats at the grass-roots level. He has put in strenuous efforts to convince Government of India that the proposal from the Union Ministry of Rural Development to this effect should be accepted. It is expected that a grant of Rs. 10.00 Lakhs to each Panchayat in J&K State would be released, in foreseeable future i.e, very soon", Soz said in a statement issued to said. In a written communication Prof Soz has also thanked Rahul Gandhi for assigning special role to Panchayats in the J&K State through programmes like HIMAYAT and UMEED, 'which have been sponsored by the Union Ministry of Rural Development'.
He has also said in the communication that in his (Prof. Soz's) opinion this direct grant of Rupees 10.00 Lakhs to each Panchayat would revolutionalize the scene for democratic decentralization and also give a push forward to the Development Process. Prof. Soz has requested that the amount of Rs. 10.00 Lakhs should be directly sent to the Panchayats under the new Scheme titled Direct Cash Transfer. Prof. Soz has explained further that this gesture and effort of Rahul Gandhi will amount to a great opportunity for Panchayats for participation directly in the democratic process as also be an effective partners in the Developmental process.
