3/5/2007 10:57:53 PM

UDHAMPUR, MARCH-05
Former Minister and MLA Ramnagar, Harsh Dev Singh today laid the foundation stone of 28 kilometers double lane Roun Domail-Ramnagar road-widening project funded by Asian Development Bank (ADB).
After laying the foundation stone, while addressing the people present there , Singh said that the project estimated to cost of Rs.38 crore would be completed within two years by Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA). In addition, work on two bridges at Kooh Nullah and Khagote, at a cost of Rs.4 crores, excluding widening of the road, is also being taken up.
MLA Udhampur, Balwant Singh Mankotia, was also present on the occasion.
Singh said that due to the traffic congestion on this road, the people as well as vehicle operators had to face numerous difficulties and many times fatal accidents occurred resulting in loss of precious lives and added that with the widening of the road, the passengers could reach Ramnagar from Udhampur within 35 minutes.
Regretting delay in execution of work on double lanning of the road, he said that the delay was caused by the executing agency due to the reasons best known to the firm which was assigned the task of completing the project. He has now asked the ERA to pressurize the concerned firm to start work immediately and complete the task in a stipulated time frame. A provision of imposing penalty to the executing agency has also been made in case of further delay, the MLA informed.
During the construction work on widening the road, efforts would be made to involve minimum private land, wherever necessary, so that locals could not face dislocation and sought the cooperation of the people of the area for the early execution and completion of this prestigious project.
He impressed upon the executing agencies to engage local skilled and unskilled youth in execution of the project so that they could also get employment opportunities to substantiate their income.
Justifying the urgency of double lanning of Roun Domail –Ramnagar road in a predetermined time frame, Singh said that about two lakh people of Ramnagar tehsil would be benefited after completion of this road who have to come daily to district headquarter at Udhampur and other destinations even outside the state for their routine work or other urgencies, widening of road has become a paramount necessity to ensure smooth traffic flow and comfortable journey.
