| Arms smuggling case: Jawan involved names army officer | | | Rajouri, Mar 05 Border Security personnel, arrested for allegedly selling arms and ammunition to militants in border district of Poonch has reportedly named an Army Major as the source of the consignment. The BSF Jawan of G-branch (an intelligence wing) Javaid Iqbal posted in Manjakote area of border district Rajouri was arrested by police on Saturday, while handing over AK 47 rifle to a civilian against the payment of Rs70, 000 cash. Unconfirmed sources told News Agency of Kashmir that during the interrogation, the BSF jawan has named an army major Davinder Singh as the source from where he get the AK47 rifle. Sources said that Javaid told police that the rifle was provided to him by the major. He is also said to have disclosed some other names involved in the weapon smuggling over the years in the border region. When contacted, Defence spokesman Colonel Goswami, expressed ignorance about any such information, saying that Army has not received any formal report from the police or BSF. He however, said that stern action would be taken against those against those whose involvement in the case is proved |
