SRINAGAR: One day workshop on “Promotion of Menstrual Hygiene Scheme” was organized today in the Banquet Hall Srinagar, by National Rural Health Mission, J&K. About 100 participants from Kashmir Division including Programme Managers, District Resource Persons, ARSH Counselors, Officials from State districts and block level attended the workshop. Speaking on the occasion Mission Director, NRHM, J&K, DrYashpal Sharma said the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoH&FW), Government of India is providing vital support for implementation of this scheme on pilot basis. He informed that scheme has been launched in three districts of Kashmir Division that include Kupwara, Baramulla & Bandipora since September 2011. DrYash exhorted upon the participants to focus more on the awareness activities to popularize the scheme and said that there is dire need to boost Information Education and Communication (IEC) activities in the State. Everyone in the field needs to be educated about such schemes, which are of immense importance in development of healthy society, he added. Ms Geetanjali Agarwal, National Consultant for Adolescent Health, MoH&FW, GoI held interactive session during the workshop and asked the participants to work at the grass root level for successful implementation of the scheme and stressed for the change of mindset in improving situations in remote and far flung areas. Earlier, Dr BB Sharma, Programme Manager, Adolescent and Reproductive Health Scheme (ARSH), NRHM, J&K in his welcome address underlined the significance of promotion of menstrual hygiene in the Adolescent girls. Dr. Meenakshi Verma, Associate Programme Manager, ARSH, J&K made the audience aware about the scheme through a power point presentation. Prominent among others present in the workshop included Dr. Yangchan Dolma, Assistant Director Family Welfare, Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad Dar, Divisional Nodal Officer, Kashmir DrAsmat Jan, Programme Manager, Dr D J Raina, Programme Manager, Sadiq Khan, State Trainer , District Monitors and other Officers from State Health Society, NRHM, J&K.
