| DRSC reviews functioning of H&ME deptt | | Stresses on equipping trauma centers on National Highway | | SRINAGAR: A Meeting of Departmental Related Standing Committee (DRSC-II) on Health and Medical Education of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council was held here today under the Chairmanship of MLC, Mr. Vijay Bakaya. The Members of the Committee including Legislators Mr. Ravinder Kumar Sharma, Mr. Jahangir Hussain Mir and S. Dharambir Singh Oberoi also attended the meeting and gave their valuable suggestions to resolve the issues related to the Health and Medical Education department. Threadbare discussions on the issues including related to Health and Medical Education. Taking serious note for not properly functioning of 12 Trauma Centres established along the National Highway, the Committee directed for equipping these Trauma Centres with modern equipments to meet any exigency. The Committee was informed that PET scan machines for SKIMS for detection of cancer and post therapy progress will be purchased at a cost of Rs. 22 crore with in next 4 months which would help in treating the cancer patients effectively in the State. The Committee was informed that 3 districts hospitals of Kupwara, Kargil and Leh have Chemotherapy facility, adding that the same facility would also be started in Doda and Udhampur district hospitals shortly. Labour Room and Blood Bank would be made functional within next four months in District Hospital Poonch, the Committee was informed. It was informed that DPRs for establishment of trauma centres at Sunderbani (Rajouri) has been prepared and sent to Government of India funding. The Committee was informed that the process for purchasing Critical Care Ambulances has been initiated and these Critical Care Ambulances would be positioned at crucial locations on National Highway. The Committee was informed that Indian System Medicines is performing well and more people are shifting towards ISM treatment. The Department has provided treatment to over 24 lakh patients in 2012-13 against 19 lakh in 2011-12. The Committee appreciated the service of ISM extending to treat the patients. Besides asking for regular supply of AYUSH medicine to all Primary Health Centres, it laid also emphasis on infrastructure development. Commissioner Secretary, Health and Medical Education, Mr. Shaleen Kabra, Director SKIMS, Mr Showkat Zargar and Director, Health Services Kashmir Dr. Saleem-ur-Rehman, Director, ISM Dr. Abdul Kabir, Principal, Government Medical College and Hospital Srinagar Dr. Rafiq Ahmad Pampori, Principal, Government Dental College, Srinagar Dr. Riyaz Farooq, Medical Superintendents of Associated hospitals and other officers of the department attended the meeting. |
