| Fake encounter allegations being probed | | | Jammu, March 07, 2007 A Special Investigation Team headed by Deputy Inspector General of Police has been constituted by J&K Government to look into allegation of fake encounters. This was stated by the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Sh. Sriprakash Jaiswal in reply to a question of Sh. Abu Asim Azmi , Sh. T. S. Bajwa and Sh. Amar Singh in Rajya Sabhja today. The Union Minister informed the Rajya Sabha that dead bodies of five person were exhumed under appropriate authority in the presence of Magistrate and witnesses and their postmortem was conducted. He said that seven Police personnel including one SSP and one Dy. SP have been arrested on the charges of murder. The Minister stated that judicial inquiry has also been announced . He added that Army and Central Reserve Police Force have also ordered Courts of Inquiry to look into the alleged involvement of their personnel in fake encounters. The Minister further informed the Rajya Sbha that after the outbreak of militancy in J&K State, Army and additional Central para-military Forces were deployed in the State to fight against terrorism. He said that in the process a large number of persons suspected to be having terrorist links were apprehended while many of those reported to have been missing have crossed over to the neighbouring country. However he said that there have been some allegations against security forces having killed the missing youth in the custody which is being probed by the State Government.
