| PDP leaders say they will not leave coalition | | | Jammu, March 7 Latest reports suggest that after the PDP patron, Mufti Mohd.Sayeed, explained to the Congress High command that his party had not demanded instant withdrawal of troops from within Jammu and Kashmir the political crisis, that had gripped the troubled state, seems to have been defused. PDP circles said here today that the Mufti informed the Congress high command that he was in favour of withdrawal of troops from areas where the situation had registered marked improvement. These circles said that the Congress high command was satisfied with the latest clarification from Mufti Mohd.Sayeed. PDP General secretary, Mr Nizam-ud-Din Bhat, said that “we are committed to see the coalition Government lasted for full term and there was no truth in reports indicating that the PDP was planning to quit the Government.” He said that the centre had accepted the PDP demand to the extent that troops would be withdrawn when the security scenario witnessed further improvement. He said this meant that the centre was not in conflict with the PDP’s stand on the issue. He indicated that the misgivings between the Congress, especially Chief Minister,Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad, and the PDP leadership were to be resolved shortly and for the time being both sides have been asked to go slow as far as the issue of withdrawal of troops was concerned. Congress circles,on the other hand, said that the entire issue was to be discussed again by an emissary of Prime Minister,Dr Manmohan Singh, with Chief Minister,Mr Ghulam Nabi Azas, and the PDP patron,Mufti Mohd.Sayeed,or his daughter,Ms Mehbooba Mufti,Chief of the organization, who had lobbied in favour of the party’s demand for withdrawal of troops with senior central Government leaders in Delhi. The Congress sources said that the dust was expected to be cleared within next one week.
