| Begaaney Shaadi mein Abdullah Deewana | | | Jammu,March 7 For Farooq-Omar duo in the National Conference the conflict between the Congress and the PDP over the latter’s demand for withdrawal of troops from within Jammu and Kashmir,is a proverbial “begaaney shaadi mein Abdullah Deewana’(Abdullah rejoicing over the wedding of an unknown person). During the last over six months the conflict between the Congress and the PDP over various issues had threatened the longevity of the coalition. This conflict saw Dr Farooq Abdullah and Mr Omar Abdullah making periodic statements in which the two said our options are open” meaning thereby that once the PDP withdrew the support to the Congress the latter would receive “our support” for preventing the Congress led Government from collapsing. As the crisis deepend with the airing of its demand for withdrawal of forces with vehemence the National Conference leadership started nursing hopes of immediate strike by the PDP by quitting the Government. The NC leadership had done all the permutation combination for the pattern of support it would make available to Mr Azad who was no longer prepared to stomach day-to-day pressure tactics adopted by the PDP leadership. In fact NC leaders and their supporters were seen in an upbeat mood till Tuesday evening. Dr Abdullah and Mr Omar Abdullah had sent messages to senior Congress leaders in the state, including the Chief Minister, telling them not to worry as “we are ready to support your Government, even if it may be from outside.” However, the level of enthusiasm started dwindling with reports, circulating in Jammu and Srinagar, indicating that the political crisis was on the road to resolution. Some of the senior NC leaders have not relished the way Dr Farooq and his son handled the situation. They said that by announcing that the NC was ready to support the Government led by Mr Azad they had delayed the withdrawal by the PDP to the Congress. The relation between the two had always remained jittery and the marriage of convenience between the Congress and the PDP would have broken by now had not the NC patron and President made their cards known
