Activists of Shiv Sena, led by its President Mr Anan Sharma, stageda demonstration in the city of temples on Thursday in protest against the decision of Mata Vaishnov Devi Shrine Board on allowing Bharat Petroleum Coporation to open retal outlets on its petrol stations for selling tickets for Darshan after charging Rs.10 for per ticket.
The Shiv Sainiks burnt the effigy of the Government and shouted anti Board and Government slogans.Addressing the protesters Mr Anan Sharma, criticised the Board decision on the plea that it amounted to "commercialising Hindu pilgrimage."He demanded that the tickets for Darshan be given to the pilgrims free of any charge. Among those who addressed the demonstrators included Ms Sudha Sharma,President Shiv Sena Women Wingh,Mr Kuldeep Luthra,Vicepresident,Mr Ranjit Singh Bali,Vicepresident,Mr Ashwani Gupta,Mr Ashwani Gandotra,Mr Sanjeev Kohli,Mr Rahul Sharma,Mr Vinod Gupta,Mr Rajeev Gupta and Mr Nischey Sharma.

Mr Anan Sharema and other leaders said it was unbfortunate that while the Government subsidised the air fare ofr muslims visiting Saudi Arabia for performing the Haj pilgrimage the Hindus were being taxed for offering prayers in their holy shrines. They demanded a tax free pilgrimage for those visiting Mata Vaishnov Devi shrine.

However, various social organisations have supported the Shrine Board decision. They said that allowing petrol stations to seel registration tickets would facilitate pilgrims as they will not be forced to waste time in long lines in front of a small number of counters for getting the registration slips.(KIP)
