Srinagar, Aug 16: The national highway that connects the Ladakh region with rest of the State was put through after remaining closed for two days due to landslides, triggered by heavy rains. A traffic police official said that all the stranded vehicles, including those carrying passengers and essentials for different parts of the Ladakh region were allowed to proceed today. He said the road was put through after Border Roads Organization (BRO) put into service sophisticated machines and men to clear the landslides and mudslides at different places on the highway. "We allowed traffic from both sides of the Zojila pass." "The road is strategically important for security point of view besides the authorities have to stock essentials, including rice, atta, sugar, kerosene oil, diesel, LPG and medicine before the national highway and internal roads are closed due to snowfall," the official added. |
