| Landslide claims 2 lives in Dudu, timely action saves 9 buried in debris | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Udhampur, Aug 16 : Timely action by rescue team affected a miraculous escape in Udhampur today, even as two people died in the incident. Due to heavy rainfall on Thursday, a land slide took place in village Seri, Dudu which fell on the house of one Punnu Ram S/o Tej Ram R/o Ser under which 11 persons including 05 kids got buried. Receiving the information, Police authorities of district Police Udhampur under the supervision of Sh. Anil Magotra, SSP Udhampur swung into action and a Police team of PP Dudu led by SI Nishat Ahmed and assisted by CRPF team of B-Coy, 187 Bn were dispatched to the site of incident with sufficient logistics/equipments to immediately launch rescue operation to save the lives of innocent victims. Some backup vehicles along with sufficient manpower and a JCV of a local contractor were also sent evacuate the injured from accidental site and transport them to nearest hospitals for immediate first aid/treatment.
On the other hand, District Police Udhampur also alerted authorities of PHC Dudu/Sub Divisional Hospital Ramnagar and District Hospital Udhampur to remain in readiness along with team of doctors/specialists and life saving drugs etc to provide immediate first aid/treatment to the victims. The Police teams immediately reached the spot and started rescued operation. Till 0100 Hours midnight, after hectic efforts, police team evacuated all the injured persons including 05 children from the debris of completely damaged house. All of them were shifted to PHC Dudu where on lady namely Sumitra Devi W/o Punnu Ram succumbed to her injuries and a 05 year old girl namely Darshna Devi D/o Dev Raj R/o Seri had also died on the spot during the said land slide. Rest all the injured were rescued and their condition is stable. Police a lodged a detailed damage report in this regard and further enquiry is going on. |
