| Omar asked not to reduce footprints of security forces | | | Jammu Aug 16 : On the basis of inputs from various intelligence agencies the Union Home Minis try is said to have suggested to the National Conference led Government to establish additional security pickets in highly sensitive are as in the entire state in order to prevent Kishtwar type incidents from being repeated. Sources said that the state Government has been assured of full support for setting up additional pickets of security forces and in case the state required additional companies of paramilitary forces they would be made available. The Ministry has told the st at e Government in clear terms that any communal trouble or any major incident of militancy related violence have impact on the security scenario in a number of sensitive states in the country. It has suggested to the Government, the Army and the paramilitary forces to avoid lowering their guard within the state and on the border in the light of reports indicating that militants, aided by Pak troops may make desperate attempts at infiltrating into Jammu and Kashmir. The state Government in general and Omar Abdullah in particular have been advised to suspend their programme for reducing the footprint of security forces by winding up security posts and bunkers. This suggestion has come in the wake of reports suggesting that militants were engaged in regrouping and in carving out new hideouts. Also militants were waiting for increased man power from across the LOC and the IB and in case the Indian troops continued to achieve success in foiling ingress bids militants may go in for recruitment within the state. |
