| On board ‘Samjhauta’, passengers to compromise with luggage | | | NEW DELHI | MAR 9 Passengers travelling on Samjhauta Express will be allowed to carry only two pieces of luggage weighing a maximum of 35-kg following last month's blasts in the train that killed 68 people. "Extra luggage, if any, can be booked in the luggage van after security check," Railway Minister Lalu Prasad said in a written reply in Rajya Sabha. The fire due to explosions in two coaches of Delhi-Attari Express on the night of February 18 killed 68 people and injured 12. "There is no proposal at present to shift departure point of the train," Prasad said. New security measures introduced after the incident include frisking of all passengers and manual checking of their luggage. "Stickers are being pasted on the luggage of passsengers mentioning coach and berth number after security check," he said. Sniffer dogs would be deployed for checking of empty rakes and only Sleeper Class Reserved coaches which are connected by vestibules would be provided. Close circuit televisions and modern security gadgets like hand held metal detectors and door-frame metal detectors have been introduced, he said. |
