| Special facilities for pregnant women in trains: Lalu | | | NEW DELHI | MAR 9 Pregnant women travelling by trains can look forward to assistance from rail staff with Railway Minister Lalu Prasad today announcing plans to come with a special package for them.
Rail staff will be instructed to alert stations in case of urgent medical attention for such passengers, he told the Lok Sabha while winding up the debate on the first stage of the railway budget for 2007-08.
Under the proposal, coupes will also be allotted to them in trains, he said.
The House approved vote on account for meeting rail expenses for three months from April.
Supplementary demands for grants of Rs 7,579 crore and relevant appropriation bills got the nod of the House through a voice vote.
Promising to further cut down flab in the railways, the minister said all efforts would be directed to making it the world's number one network.
"There is no question of going in for privatisation," Prasad remarked while pointing out that the NDA government had set out on such a course.
