| 5-Day drama festival begins | | | JAMMU, MARCH 10 Governor Lt. Gen (Retd) S K Sinha today lauded the efforts being made for promoting art and culture, saying that it has tremendous bearing on the future of the nation.
Inaugurating the five day festival of plays by Sri Ram Centre for Performing Art, New Delhi, jointly organized by Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages and North Zone Cultural Centre, Patiala at Abhinav Theatre this evening, the Governor said that art and music reflects the country’s great ethos and binds the people together.
General Sinha said Jammu and Kashmir has immense talent that needs to be identified and polished for projection at national level. He said the State has produced great artists like K L Seigal and hoped that the budding youth will emulate from their contribution to the world of art and culture. He complimented yet another son of the soil, Mushtaq Kak for making a name at the national level.
The Governor also lauded the endeavours being made by Secretary, Cultural Academy, Dr Rafiq Masoodi for promoting art and congratulated him on organizing the drama festival. He hoped that the art lovers of Jammu would be entertained by the plays being staged during the festival and enable artists to know about the latest trend of Modern Indian Theatre.
In his welcome address, Dr Masoodi threw light on the activities undertaken by the Academy in the field of art, culture, literature and theatre in the region and said that it succeeded in accelerating the activities sine the last one yea.
On this occasion, Mr Mushtaq Kak, the director of the plays, was honoured by the Governor and presented a memento.
Lady Governor, Mrs Premini Sinha was also present on the occasion.
The inaugural play, Ek Gadhey Ki Atam Katha, based on the Urdu novel of Krishan Chandra was much liked by the audience. The dramatization of this play was done by Anoop Trivedi and Priti Trivedi. The other plays to be staged during the festival include Hamare Samey Mein, written by Shahid Anwar, which was awarded the best script of the year by Sahitya Kala Parishad New Delhi in All India Hidi Playwright competition held in New Delhi, Molier’s Kanjoos, an Urdu adaptation of Hazrat Awara and Chekhove in my life, dramatized by Ambrish K Saxena and Ifra Mushtaq. All these plays have been directed by Mushtaq Kak. The last production of this festival will be Shobha Yatra written by Shafaan Khan and directed by Laique Hussain.
