| Four killed in snow related incidents, essential commodities on short | | Seven days vacation announced for valley schools, Air Force offers help | | Srinagar | Mar13 While the entire valley has been covered by a thick blanket of snow due to continuous snowfall for the past 36 hours, at least five persons, including a girl and a security man, died due to collapsing of different structures across the valley. Two CRPF paratroopers were also injured when a bunker gave in to snow. Meanwhile, the state cabinet has announced a vacation of seven days in all schools across valley and also postponed the interviews for jobs. According to reports, normal life came to a complete halt as accumulation of snow on roads prevented any movement of transport and snapping of electric supply lines forced the state administration to cut off the supply of electricity fearing accidental electro locution. Four persons namely Wazira, daughter of Gh Ahmed Bhat of Budgam, Ab Hamid Matto of Pulwama, Gh Mohd Khokhar, son of Sher Mohd of Kokernag and Gh Nabi Bhat of Asham Sonawari died in different snow related incidents while two CRPF personnel received injuries when their shed collapsed in Sanat Nagar area of Srinagar City. At least 16 structures were damaged in Srinagar City, two houses were damaged in Ganderbal, and one house was damaged in Lalhar, while 14 structures were damaged in Pahalgam and Laripora in Anantnag district. Meanwhile, the state cabinet that met in an emergency in Jammu decided to announce a vacation of seven days in all schools across valley and also postponed all interviews for jobs and admission to different courses scheduled for the next two days. Three cabinet ministers, Taj Mohi-u-din, Nawang Rigzin and Mohammed Dilawar Mir, have been assigned the responsibility of monitoring the situation arising due to an unexpectedly heavy snowfall that has cut off the valley from the rest of the country. JK's chief minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad, is coming for an emergency visit of the valley on Wednesday. Demand of the essential commodities is on a steep rise as Srinagar-Jammu National highway remained closed for the third consecutive day while all incoming and outgoing flights have been cancelled due to accumulation of snow on the runway of Srinagar Airport. Hundreds of passengers and trucks carrying food supplies to valley remain stranded on the highway. The closure of the highway for more than a week early March had already put a pressure on the essential food supplies to valley. Air Force has, meanwhile, offered to start an air service again in case the Border Roads Organization failed to open the highway in a couple of days. Meanwhile, IGP Kashmir S. M. Sahai has directed all the range DIGs and SSPs to keep close vigil on the situation, and reach out the people with in shortest possible time. Following directions, police in Central Kashmir Range which is spread over the districts, Leh, Kargil, Ganderbal, Srinagar and Budgam has been kept on high alert. Disaster Management Cells has been established in all the affected areas.
