| Thrill of flying low frill airlines turns sour | | Glitch in system forces Air Deccan to refuse refund | | Jammu, Mar 13 The thrill of flying low frill airlines has turned into a nightmare for Kashmir bound passengers of Deccan airways as the airline today refused to refund ticket money to passengers after canceling the flights. Air Deccan has cancelled the flight for today as well as the next two days. Although the cancellation of the flights is a routine affair due to bad weather conditions, but, the reported refusal of the Deccan official to refund the ticket money has put many a passengers bound for Srinagar in quandary. Travel industry sources, have revealed that Deccan Airlines has been forced to refuse the refund of tickets due to failure of the new software reservation system installed by the company on February 27. As a result of this glitch, the company has asked all the passengers to get the ticket refund after 25 days, a decision which caused problems for many passengers. As if the cancellation of the flights was a lesser problem, the airlines management much to the chagrin of customers informed that they would be paid refund after twenty five days. This decision of the Airlines, whose majority of the customers come from the middle class as well as the first time fliers has caused a lot of problems to Srinagar bound passengers.
Talking to Early Times, a distraught Shahid Khan, who had booked a ticket to Srinagar, said that cancellation of the flight was expected but the refusal of the company to refund the money has put his plans in quandary. "I don't have more money to book an airline ticket, the prices of which have already skyrocketed. I have only few hundred rupees left for by food and lodging", he said, adding that the company should not punish the poor passengers for a fault of their own. Another harried passenger, demanded that the Deccan should refund the money to the customers instantly or re-schedule the flights and ensure the people reach their destination. Appalled customers, meanwhile, have requested the government to help them in reaching Srinagar as many of them do not have the financial strength to book another ticket to Srinagar. Meanwhile, the price of tickets to Srinagar has skyrocketed due to huge demand for airline tickets as Traffic on National Highway has been closed due to landslides. Airline passengers from Jammu to Srinagar are paying a premium of upto fifty percent over the normal price of tickets. Similar is the case of other airlines, who have increased their ticket price to take advantage of the abnormally high demand. An official of a leading private airlines, talking to this reporter, while admitting the increase in the price of the tickets, said that this was being done according to the market dynamics and every thing was decided by the law of demand and supply.
